Speech Pathology FAQs

Your child may benefit from seeing a speech pathologist if they:

  • Struggle to be understood
  • Have difficulty forming words or sentences
  • Seem behind on speech or language milestones
  • Find it hard to follow instructions or engage socially

If you are unsure, contact us for an initial consultation —we are here to guide you.

No, you do not need a GP or specialist referral to access our speech therapy services. You can refer yourself or a family member directly by completing our online referral form.

Speech therapy can begin from as early as 18 months, depending on the child’s needs. Early intervention is key, and your therapist will tailor their therapy to suit the child’s age and developmental level.

The length of therapy depends on your goals and individual needs. Some people require short-term support for a specific issue, while others benefit from ongoing sessions. Your therapist will outline a suggested therapy plan after your initial assessment and adjust it as you progress.

Each standard session includes 50 minutes of face-to-face therapy and 10 minutes for clinical notes and planning, in line with NDIS billing guidelines.

Speech therapy sessions are interactive and goal-based. They may include games, structured activities, conversation practice, visual supports and parent coaching. Sessions are always adapted to the participant’s abilities, goals and interests.

Yes, speech pathology services are funded under the NDIS if they relate to a participant’s functional goals. Most plans will include funding under “Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living”. Our team can help interpret your plan and ensure your funding is used effectively.

We support people with:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Speech delay and language disorders
  • Global developmental delay
  • Stuttering
  • Intellectual disability
  • Post-stroke communication challenges
  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
  • Many more unique challenges…

Yes, we offer telehealth speech therapy when clinically appropriate. This option is ideal for families in rural or remote areas or for continuity during school holidays. Sessions are secure, effective and easy to access from home.

All speech pathologists at Lift Health Group:

  • Are fully qualified with a university degree
  • Are registered with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Have extensive experience with NDIS clients, including those with complex needs

If your therapist is unavailable, we will allocate another qualified team member and ensure a full handover. We understand continuity is important—our clinicians are trained to work with individuals who may find change challenging.

Speech pathology services are billed in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, and always according to the pre-approved quote provided to you. Charges may include therapy time, report writing, travel and telehealth delivery, depending on what has been agreed in advance.

We do not charge for anything that has not been pre-approved.

If you are an NDIS participant, invoices are sent directly after the session:

  • To your Plan Manager (if plan-managed)
  • To the NDIA (if agency-managed)
  • Or directly to you (if self-managed)
