Early Intervention FAQs

Early intervention involves targeted support and therapies for young children (typically 0–6 years) who are showing signs of developmental delay or disability. It aims to improve outcomes in areas such as communication, social skills and motor development.

You might consider early intervention if your child:

  • Exhibits sensory processing difficulties
  • Is slow to reach developmental milestones (sitting, walking, talking)
  • Has difficulty with fine or gross motor skills
  • Struggles with social interaction or play skills
  • Shows signs of speech or language delay

Our early intervention team includes paediatric physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and behavioural specialists. Each clinician holds relevant university qualifications and additional training in paediatric practice.

  • Review of developmental history and any previous reports
  • Discussion of your child’s strengths, challenges and family goals
  • Age-appropriate functional assessments (movement, play and communication)
  • Observation of your child in a natural play environment
  • Creation of a tailored intervention plan

Sessions typically last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on your child’s age, attention span and the goals of therapy.

Frequency varies based on needs and funding. We commonly recommend one to two sessions per week, with regular reviews to adjust the plan as your child progresses.

Yes. We offer both clinic-based and home-based sessions. Home visits allow us to work within your family’s daily routines and adapt your environment for optimal learning.

Many private health funds rebate allied-health paediatric services. NDIS participants may be eligible under core or capacity building supports. We can assist with funding queries and paperwork. Contact us to discuss your situation.

Parents and carers are central to success. You will learn strategies to use at home, be involved in goal setting and receive regular updates on your child’s progress.
