Speech Pathology FAQs

If you are concerned about your child’s communication, it is a good idea to seek support. Signs that speech therapy may be helpful include:

  • difficulty speaking clearly
  • limited vocabulary
  • trouble understanding instructions
  • stuttering
  • challenges with social communication

Some children may also need support with early literacy or feeding and swallowing. Every child develops differently, so if something does not feel quite right, we are here to assess and guide you. No concern is too small to explore.

If you are unsure, contact us for an initial consultation — we are here to guide you.

No, you do not need a GP or specialist referral to access our speech therapy services. You can refer yourself or a family member directly by completing our online referral form.

There is no set age to start speech therapy, it depends on your child’s needs. Some children benefit from support as early as 18 months if there are signs of delayed speech or language development. Early intervention can make a big difference, but it’s never too late to start. If you are unsure, a speech therapist can assess your child’s communication and help you decide if therapy is needed.

The length of therapy varies based on your individual goals, preferences, and support needs. Some people seek short-term support for a specific area, while others benefit from ongoing sessions over time. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to develop a therapy plan after the initial assessment and will adjust your goals as you progress.

Each standard session includes up to 60 minutes of face-to-face therapy and time for clinical notes and planning, in line with NDIS billing guidelines.

Speech therapy sessions are interactive, personalised, and goal-focused. Depending on the person’s age and needs, sessions may include play-based activities, structured tasks, or real-life communication scenarios. We also provide coaching for parents and support people when appropriate. Every session is adapted to the individual’s strengths, interests, and preferred ways of communicating.

Yes, speech pathology services are funded under the NDIS if they relate to a participant’s functional goals. Most plans will include funding under “Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living”. Our team can help interpret your plan and ensure your funding is used effectively.

Yes, we offer telehealth speech therapy when clinically appropriate. This option is ideal for families in rural or remote areas or for continuity during school holidays. Sessions are secure, effective and easy to access from home.

All speech pathologists at Lift Health Group:

  • Hold recognised university qualifications in speech pathology
  • Are certified and registered with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Have extensive experience working with NDIS participants, including individuals with complex communication and support needs

If your therapist is unavailable, we will allocate another qualified team member and ensure a full handover. We understand continuity is important—our clinicians are trained to work with individuals who may find change challenging.

Speech pathology services are billed in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, and always according to the pre-approved quote provided to you. Charges may include therapy time, report writing, travel and telehealth delivery, depending on what has been agreed in advance.

We do not charge for anything that has not been pre-approved.

If you are an NDIS participant, invoices are sent directly after the session:

  • To your Plan Manager (if plan-managed)
  • To the NDIA (if agency-managed)
  • Or directly to you (if self-managed)
