Matt’s Aviation Journey – By Adelaide Biplanes

This post was made by Adelaide Biplanes on the 1st of April 2023.

Matt Belperio …. New Recreational Pilot Licence, an RPL.

Annie tells me their story …. “I began coming down to Adelaide Biplanes in 2014 when my Dad, Sam Hall began learning to fly. Gaylene used to make me a vanilla or chocolate malted shake.

Matt and I met at University in our first year of training for a Physiotherapy degree here in Adelaide. He has always been an adrenalin junkie and became interested when we flew with my Dad. I bought him a Flight Simulator for home and he became obsessed! He was playing at this for hours at a time and he’d say ‘I’m leaving for Paris and then I’ll be back in Adelaide at ….. ‘

Then I bought him a Trial Instructional Flight in the SportStar and he transferred his obsession to learning to fly and biplanes. This was only a few months ago, in November 2022.

Matt said, This is what I’m meant to do!

We had both saved really hard for a house deposit. We agreed that as we were in our 20’s  we could justify diverting the funds into setting up our own business. We decided together that there was a way to use our love of aviation to take Physiotherapy to rural and remote areas and our new business was born (Lift Health Group)!

The word lift comes from the thought of aviation linked with our ability to lift people’s health outcomes, lifting rural healthcare to new heights …. “

Matt has been focused and determined to get his Recreational Pilot Certificate in the Harmony (a light plane), adding the Passenger Endorsement and continuing on to his Navigation Endorsement. Stepping up into a heavier aeroplane the Cessna 172, he has added the Recreational Pilot Licence and now is flying for his Controlled Airspace Endorsement.

Matt and Annie have begun taking Physiotherapy and Allied Health professionals to rural areas of South Australia.

There is a road sign in our Flight Office ….. Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Way to go, Matt and Annie! Awesome!
